Glitter nebula (Nebula full galaxy)

A six-centimetre galaxy with a high-pH temper.

Nebula Full Galaxy is a striking galaxy-pattern betta with bold colour and real attitude, ideal for experienced keepers running stable high-pH aquariums.

• Water conditions for the Nebula Full Galaxy: This line has been selected to tolerate and thrive in higher-pH water, so aim for a stable pH between 7.2 and 8.0 rather than the softer, acidic conditions often quoted for standard bettas. Keep the pH consistent — a steady 7.6 is far better than a fluctuating 7.0. Temperature should sit at 24–27°C, and the tank must be fully cycled with zero ammonia and zero nitrite at all times; nitrate should stay below 20 ppm. A gentle filter with baffled flow suits this fish, which dislikes strong current. Use a tight-fitting lid, as bettas are accomplished jumpers, and leave a small air gap above the water line for labyrinth breathing. A minimum of 20 litres is workable for a single specimen, though 30–40 litres makes maintenance far easier and gives the fish room to patrol. Test pH and hardness regularly, and top up with pre-conditioned water of matching parameters rather than cold tap water.
• Suitable tank mates: The Nebula Full Galaxy is aggressive, particularly toward other long-finned bettas and anything it perceives as a rival. Never house two males together, and be cautious with females unless you are deliberately breeding. Avoid guppies, fancy goldfish, angelfish and other slow, flowing-finned species that invite nipping and stress. Better choices are robust, fast-moving fish that occupy different zones — small rasboras, danios, or bottom-dwelling Corydoras in a suitably sized tank — provided the aquarium is large enough to break up territories. Bottom feeders such as bristlenose plecos can work in bigger setups, but avoid tiny shrimp and snails, which may be treated as snacks. Always add tank mates before the betta where possible, keep a spare tank for emergencies, and monitor closely for the first two weeks. If you see flaring, chasing or torn fins, separate immediately — this is a fish best kept solo if in doubt.
• Feeding habits and diet: The Nebula Full Galaxy is a carnivore with a hearty appetite and a tendency to overeat. Feed a staple betta pellet as the base diet, offering two to four small pellets once or twice daily — roughly what the fish can clear in two minutes. Supplement with frozen or live foods such as bloodworm, brine shrimp, daphnia and black mosquito larvae to support colour, condition and digestion. Soak freeze-dried foods briefly to prevent bloating, and avoid feeding right before lights-out. A single weekly fasting day helps prevent constipation and swim-bladder issues, which are common in overfed bettas. Remove any uneaten food promptly to protect water quality in a high-pH system, where ammonia is more toxic. Rotate foods for variety and watch body shape: a slight belly curve after feeding is normal, but persistent bloating warrants a day of fasting and a review of portion size.
• Care requirements and temperament management: Give this fish a planted tank with driftwood, floating plants and shaded resting spots, plus open swimming space near the front. Bright light is fine, but floating cover reduces stress and encourages natural behaviour. Perform 25–30% weekly water changes with temperature-matched, dechlorinated water, and rinse filter media in tank water only. Because the Nebula Full Galaxy is aggressive, provide visual barriers and avoid reflective backgrounds that trigger endless flaring — constant flaring is stressful and can lead to fin damage. Observe daily for appetite, colour intensity, fin condition and breathing rate; early intervention is key. Quarantine new arrivals and tank mates for at least two weeks. Keep a lid on, maintain stable high pH, and avoid sudden parameter swings. With consistent care, correct feeding and a sensible tank layout, this 6–7 cm showpiece can live comfortably for several years as the centrepiece of a well-managed aquarium.
