Tankmates: Lysmata cleaners and Thor are reef-safe. Peppermint and camel shrimp may pick at soft corals, zoanthids and LPS. Hawkfish, large wrasses, triggers, puffers, lionfish and groupers eat shrimp.
Feeding: Harlequin shrimp are an exception: they eat only live starfish (usually Asterina or bought sea stars).

Marine shrimp are some of the most entertaining animals in a reef tank. Cleaner shrimp set up "cleaning stations" and groom passing fish. Pistol shrimp dig burrows and share them with a goby. Fire shrimp glow deep red in the rockwork. On FishyHub you can compare saltwater udang hiasan from reef shops and marine sellers across Malaysia, with prices in RM.
Most reef shrimp are peaceful and easy to keep in a stable tank, which makes them a good first invertebrate after a cleanup crew. A few, such as harlequin shrimp, have very specialised diets. Know which one you're buying.
Red and white stripes with long white antennae. Hardy, bold and often kept in pairs. Fish line up to be groomed, and a hand in the tank may get "cleaned" too.
Deep red with white spots. More shy than cleaner shrimp, hiding in caves during the day and coming out at feeding time or under dim light.
Bought mainly to help with Aiptasia pest anemones. Results vary between species and individual shrimp, and look-alikes may ignore Aiptasia completely, so treat it as a bonus, not a guarantee.
Small burrowers with a snapping claw that makes a loud click. Some species pair with watchman gobies in a shared burrow. They need sand and stable rockwork.
Tiny, tail-waving shrimp that suit nano reefs and often live around anemones or corals.
Beautiful but specialised. They eat only starfish, so keepers must supply a steady source of starfish. Not for casual buyers.

Keep reef shrimp at about 24–27°C with stable salinity. Malaysian room temperatures of 26–31°C mean a chiller is usually needed, especially in small tanks that heat up fast in the afternoon.
Check that the listing names the exact species, since "peppermint shrimp" in particular covers several look-alikes. Look for all legs and antennae, good colour and active movement. A missing antenna tip usually grows back after a moult. Check whether the photo shows the actual shrimp, whether it is sold singly or as a pair, and the seller's location, delivery or self-collect options and live-arrival policy. Shrimp need slow drip acclimation, so be ready when they arrive. Ask the seller before ordering to Sabah or Sarawak.
Udang cleaner makan sisa makanan, parasit pada ikan dan makanan sejuk beku seperti mysis. Beri sedikit makanan tambahan jika akuarium sangat bersih.
Udang biasanya menyorok selepas bersalin kulit (moulting) atau baru dimasukkan ke akuarium. Ini normal, kerana kulit barunya masih lembut.
Yes. They don't harm corals, although they may steal food you target-feed to corals.
Yes, pairs usually get along well. Mixing species, such as cleaner and fire shrimp, works in larger tanks with plenty of rockwork.
It is probably a pistol shrimp snapping its claw, which is completely normal.
