Tankmates: Not a general community fish, but one male can share a calm, well-planted tank with peaceful, non-nipping, non-long-finned species (e.g. small rasboras, Corydoras, otocinclus) and snails. Avoid other labyrinth fish, fin nippers (tiger barbs, some tetras) and fancy-finned livebearers. Bettas often hunt shrimplets and may attack adult cherry shrimp; larger Amano shrimp usually fare better.
Feeding: Insectivores/micropredators. Overfeeding is a common cause of bloat and poor water quality. Wild-caught fish may need live or frozen food before accepting pellets.

The delta tail betta is a long-finned ikan laga whose tail widens from the base like the Greek letter delta, but stops short of the full 180-degree spread of a halfmoon. It is a graceful, easy-going betta that suits first-time keepers who want flowing fins without paying show-halfmoon prices.
On FishyHub you can browse delta and super delta bettas from Malaysian breeders, hobbyists and aquarium shops, with prices in RM. Many come from the same spawns as halfmoons, so you often get very good colour for the money.
A standard delta has a tail spread of roughly a quarter to just under half a circle when the fish flares. The edges are fairly straight and the tail looks like a fan or triangle from the side.
A super delta spreads wider, close to a halfmoon but not quite reaching a straight 180-degree line. Breeders sometimes sell near-miss halfmoons as super deltas, which is why they can be a good-value pick.
Ask the seller for a photo or video of the fish flaring. If the top and bottom edges of the tail meet in a straight vertical line, it is a halfmoon. If they angle inward, it is a delta or super delta. Labels vary, so always judge from the actual fish.

Delta fins are long but a little lighter than a halfmoon's, so these bettas swim more freely. They still prefer calm water. A sponge filter or a hang-on filter turned down low works well, and smooth decor or live plants keep the fins from snagging.
Most Malaysian homes are warm enough that a betta doesn't need a heater. The bigger risk is overheating. A tank on a sunny windowsill or under a strong light can climb past 31°C in a heatwave. Keep it in the shade, leave an air gap under the lid, and check the thermometer on very hot afternoons.
Our tap water is chlorinated, so always use anti klorin when you top up or tukar air. Letting the water stand overnight is not enough on its own if your supply uses chloramine. A small weekly water change of 20–30% keeps fins clean and helps prevent fin rot.
If you live in Sabah or Sarawak, ask the seller before ordering, as live fish take longer to reach East Malaysia.
Often, yes. Because it doesn't meet the halfmoon show standard, a delta of similar colour usually costs less. Prices in RM depend on colour, fin quality, sex and the breeder.
A small bowl is hard to keep clean and stable. A filtered 1-foot tank is a much better minimum.
