Tankmates: Good with similar-sized, non-aggressive fish such as silver dollars, larger tetras, severums, angelfish, plecos and clown loaches. Their mouth disadvantages them in competition with aggressive cichlids, which should be avoided.
Feeding: The deformed, narrow mouth makes it hard to take large or floating food; use small sinking pellets. Colour-enhancing foods are widely used for the red forms.
