Tankmates: Keep with other cichlids from the same lake and of similar temperament; do not mix with general community fish. Synodontis catfish and some large bristlenose plecos are common companions.
Feeding: Mbuna and Tropheus are herbivorous grazers and should get mostly vegetable/spirulina-based foods; high-protein foods such as bloodworm and beef heart are linked to Malawi bloat. Haplochromines, peacocks and frontosa need more protein.
