Frozen food is the closest most keepers get to feeding live food without the work. Bloodworm, artemia, mysis, daphnia and krill are cleaned, packed and frozen, usually in blister packs of small cubes, so you pop out one cube per feed. Frozen cacing darah (bloodworm) is the best-known, but there is a frozen food for almost every fish, from tiny tetras to marine fish.
Frozen food is ideal for conditioning breeders, bringing out colour, and tempting new or fussy fish to eat. FishyHub lists frozen foods from Malaysian sellers, with prices in RM.
| Food | Best for | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Bloodworm | Bettas, community fish, cichlids, goldfish | Rich, so feed as a treat |
| Artemia (brine shrimp) | Small fish, marine fish, fry (baby artemia) | Easy to digest |
| Mysis shrimp | Marine fish, cichlids, picky eaters | Higher in protein and fat |
| Daphnia | Small fish, goldfish | Light, adds fibre |
| Krill | Arowana, large cichlids, marine predators | Natural colour boost |
| Mixed blends | Community and marine tanks | Several foods in one cube |
Feed frozen food 2–4 times a week alongside a dry staple. For most freshwater fish, it works best as a supplement.
Frozen food has to stay frozen. In our heat, a pack left on a doorstep thaws fast. Before ordering, check each listing or ask the seller how they ship frozen goods, for example with ice packs or insulated boxes, and which areas they deliver to. Self-collection is often the safest option. For Sabah and Sarawak, deliveries take longer, so ask the seller first.
If your freezer loses power for a long time and packs fully thaw, don't refreeze them. Partly thawed food should be used soon. Keep frozen fish food in a sealed bag, away from household food.
Packs that look stuck together, discoloured or freezer-burned, or that smell off when thawed, should be thrown away.
Ya.
Generally yes. Freezing reduces the risk of bringing in many parasites, though quality depends on the source.
Larger fry can eat frozen baby artemia or finely chopped cubes. Very young fry need smaller foods first.
