Brochis Robustus

Meet Corydoras Robustus, a compact, peaceful bottom-dweller that brings reliable and visually engaging activity to any community freshwater aquarium. Known for its easygoing temperament and hardiness, this Corydoras stays near the substrate, tirelessly cleaning up pellets and stray scraps while adding subtle motion to the tank's lower levels. It’s the perfect armored-cleanup crew for both beginners and seasoned aquarists who want a reliable, low-maintenance fish with character.

Why this Corydoras stands out

• Peaceful, social behavior: Best kept in small groups or shoals, these fish thrive when they can interact with their own species and other calm tank mates.
• Hardy and forgiving: Robust for a Corydoras, it tolerates minor fluctuations in water chemistry and routine maintenance schedules, making it a forgiving choice for busy hobbyists.
• Efficient bottom-cleaner: Digs through the fine substrate and sends uneaten food to the tank’s microfauna, helping maintain clearer water and cleaner gravel.
• Versatile aesthetics: Its natural, unobtrusive coloration blends across planted or heavily decorated tanks, adding life to the substrate without overpowering the tank’s focal points.
• Easy feeding: Accepts a range of sinking foods—pellets, wafers, and occasional meaty treats—so you can tailor meals to your tank’s feeding routine.

Care at a glance

• Size: Typically mature in the 2–3 inch range, making it a great fit for small to medium-sized tanks.
• Tank setup: Fine sand or smooth substrate is ideal to protect barbels; include driftwood and gentle plants to offer hiding spots and biofilm-rich surfaces for grazing.
• Water parameters: Soft to moderately hard water; keep temperatures in the comfortable range for tropical community tanks (roughly 72–78°F / 22–26°C) and a pH around 6.5–7.5.
• Tank mates: Best with other peaceful species like small tetras, rasboras, and dwarf gouramis. Avoid aggressive or very large tank mates that may push them to the tank’s corners.
• Group dynamics: Maintain a small school (4–6 individuals) to encourage natural behavior and reduce stress.

Tank setup and care tips

• Provide a soft, sandy substrate to protect their delicate barbels and encourage natural foraging behavior.
• Offer driftwood and ample hiding spots with plants or decorative caves to mimic a natural foraging environment.
• Feed small amounts multiple times a day to prevent overfeeding and water quality swings; include sinking pellets and occasional frozen or live foods for variety.
• Pair with compatible tank mates to create a balanced community—watch for any changes in behavior during feeding to ensure all fish get their share.
• Perform regular water changes and maintain gentle filtration to keep the bottom zone well-oxygenated without creating strong currents that may sweep them around the tank.
