Product Description

Corydoras (Banded / Scleromystax barbatus)

"Discover the charm of Corydoras barbatus, also known as Banded or Scleromystax Corydoras. Learn about their care, tank mates, and unique characteristics."

- Unique Charm: Corydoras barbatus, commonly known as Banded or Scleromystax Corydoras, is a captivating addition to any aquarium. With its striking banded pattern, slender body, and endearing behavior, this species brings charm and character to your aquatic environment.

- Water Conditions: Banded Corydoras thrive in water temperatures between 72°F and 78°F (22°C to 26°C) and prefer a slightly acidic to neutral pH level ranging from 6.0 to 7.5. They appreciate well-oxygenated water, so ensure adequate filtration and perform regular water changes to maintain optimal water quality.

- Tank Size and Setup: Provide a tank with a minimum capacity of 20 gallons (75 liters) to accommodate a small group of Banded Corydoras. They prefer a well-planted tank with soft substrate, as they use their barbels to search for food. Create hiding spots using driftwood, rocks, or PVC pipes to mimic their natural habitat and offer them a sense of security.

- Tank Mates: Banded Corydoras are peaceful and social fish, making them excellent community tank residents. They can be housed with other peaceful fish species such as tetras, rasboras, guppies, and small catfish. Avoid keeping them with aggressive or fin-nipping fish that may stress or harm them.

- Feeding Habit: Banded Corydoras are primarily bottom-dwellers with a scavenging feeding habit. They are omnivorous and readily accept a variety of foods. Offer them a balanced diet consisting of high-quality sinking pellets, wafers, and frozen or live foods like bloodworms and brine shrimp. Ensure they have access to food that reaches the substrate where they forage.

- Care and Behavior: Banded Corydoras are generally hardy and easy to care for, making them suitable for beginner aquarists. They exhibit a peaceful temperament and spend most of their time exploring the bottom of the tank. Regular monitoring of water parameters, maintaining stable water conditions, and providing a suitable tank setup are crucial for their well-being.

- Breeding: Breeding Banded Corydoras can be achieved in the home aquarium. They are egg scatterers and will deposit their eggs on various surfaces, such as broad-leaved plants or smooth rocks. To encourage breeding, provide a separate breeding tank with suitable water conditions and incorporate spawning sites. After spawning, remove the adults to protect the eggs and provide a separate rearing tank for the fry.

In conclusion, Corydoras barbatus, also known as Banded or Scleromystax Corydoras, is a delightful and charming fish species that will bring character to your aquarium. With their striking banded pattern, peaceful temperament, and scavenging behavior, they make excellent community tank inhabitants. By providing suitable water conditions, compatible tank mates, and a balanced diet, you can ensure the health, happiness, and breeding success of Banded Corydoras in your aquarium.
