The OHM RGBG is a gorgeous aggressive betta ideal for high pH water. At 6-7 cm, it's a show-stopping addition to species-only tanks.

• Water Conditions: OHM RGBG bettas are adaptable to a wide range of water parameters, but they truly thrive in high pH conditions. The ideal pH range is 7.0–8.0, and they can tolerate up to 8.5 if acclimated slowly. However, stability is more critical than a specific number; sudden pH swings can cause stress and disease. Keep temperature between 24–28°C (75–82°F) using a reliable heater. Ammonia and nitrite must be 0 ppm, and nitrate below 20 ppm. Because high pH increases the toxicity of ammonia, robust filtration and regular water changes are essential. A gentle water flow is preferred; bettas have long fins and strong currents exhaust them. Use a sponge filter or baffle your filter output. Test water parameters weekly with a liquid test kit. If your tap water has very high pH (above 8.5), consider mixing with RO/DI water to reach a stable 7.5–8.0. Also, maintain a consistent temperature and avoid drastic changes during water changes.
• Suitable Tank Mates: Due to their aggressive nature, OHM RGBG bettas are best kept alone in a species-only aquarium. If you want tank mates, choose a larger tank (20 gallons or more) and select peaceful, fast-moving fish that won't nip fins or compete for food. Suitable companions include small rasboras (e.g., harlequin rasbora), corydoras catfish (e.g., pygmy cory), kuhli loaches, and peaceful snails like nerites or mysteries. Ghost shrimp can work but may be eaten. Avoid other bettas (especially males), guppies, fancy goldfish, barbs, danios, and any fish with long flowing fins or bright colors that may trigger aggression. Also avoid slow-moving, timid fish. Always introduce tank mates before the betta or rearrange decor to break territories. Monitor closely for any signs of aggression; have a backup plan to separate if needed. Remember, every betta has a unique personality, so what works for one may not work for another.
• Feeding Habits: OHM RGBG bettas are carnivorous and require a protein-rich diet. In the wild, they feed on insects, larvae, and small crustaceans. In captivity, offer a high-quality betta pellet as the staple food. Look for pellets with at least 40% protein and fish meal as the first ingredient. Supplement with frozen or live foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, daphnia, and mysis shrimp. These provide variety and mimic natural foraging. Feed 2–3 small meals per day, only as much as they can consume in 2 minutes. Overfeeding is a common mistake that leads to constipation, bloating, and swim bladder disease. If your betta looks bloated, fast for 1–2 days and then feed a peeled, blanched pea (though bettas are carnivorous, the fiber can help). Alternatively, use daphnia as a laxative. Remove any uneaten food after feeding to prevent water quality issues. A once-a-week fasting day can help maintain digestive health. Also, bettas can be picky; if they refuse a new food, try soaking pellets in garlic juice or mixing with frozen food. Never feed them human food or cheap flakes, as these lack proper nutrition.
• Care Requirements: Proper care ensures your OHM RGBG lives a long, healthy life (3–5 years). Provide a minimum tank size of 5 gallons (19 liters), but 10 gallons is better for stable water parameters and more swimming space. Use a gentle filter and a heater to maintain 24–28°C. Cover the tank tightly—bettas are excellent jumpers. Decorate with live or silk plants, caves, and driftwood to create hiding spots and territories. Avoid sharp-edged plastic plants that can tear fins. Perform a 25% water change weekly using a gravel vacuum to remove debris. Always dechlorinate water and match temperature. Test parameters regularly. Keep the tank cycled; never introduce a betta to an uncycled tank. Watch for signs of illness: clamped fins, lethargy, loss of appetite, white spots (ich), or fin rot. Quarantine new fish for 2–4 weeks. Handle your betta with a soft net or cup, never with bare hands. Betta fish are intelligent and can learn to recognize their keeper; you can even train them to jump through hoops. With consistent care, your OHM RGBG will be a stunning centerpiece.
