Green Jade Shrimp (Neocaridina Davidi sp. Green Jade)

Meet the Neocaridina davidi sp. Green Jade—a sparkling emerald addition for any peaceful freshwater aquarium. This vivid color morph combines eye-catching aesthetics with dependable, beginner-friendly care, making it a standout choice for nano tanks and community setups alike.

Why Green Jade stands out

The Green Jade shrimp showcases a rich emerald hue that breathes life into plant-rich aquariums. Its coloration deepens with careful nutrition and steady water conditions, turning your tank into a living, moving focal point. Beyond looks, this morph is celebrated for its resilience and prolific breeding, delivering consistent color and activity even in diverse tank environments.

Perfect setup for vibrant, healthy shrimp

• Tank size: 5–10 gallons is ideal for a small colony; larger tanks support more biofilm and social interaction.
• Water parameters: Temperature 72–78°F (22–26°C); pH 6.5–7.5; KH 0–8 dKH; GH 4–8 dGH. Stable conditions are the secret to vibrant color and steady breeding.
• Environment: Gentle circulation, dense planting, moss, and shaded corners give shrimp places to forage and seek shelter, especially for new shrimplets.
• Diet: A mix of biofilm, algae, and small sinking pellets or wafers; supplement with blanched greens or peas occasionally for added nutrition.
• Maintenance: Monitor water quality regularly and avoid copper-based medications, which can harm shrimp.

Behavior, care, and breeding insights

Green Jade shrimp are peaceful and highly social within their own species, making them excellent community tank residents when paired with small, non-aggressive fish. They constantly graze surfaces, helping to clean algae and micro-organisms from leaves and substrate. In stable conditions, females carry eggs for roughly 2–3 weeks before releasing tiny shrimplets, supporting ongoing display and natural population growth without the need for complex husbandry.

Practical tips to maximize color and vitality

• Keep a consistent photoperiod and avoid sudden temperature shifts to prevent stress and color loss.
• Choose plants with dense, low-moving foliage to provide ample biofilm surfaces and hiding spots.
• Introduce a balanced feeding routine with small, frequent portions to minimize waste and encourage steady growth.
• Quarantine new plants and decorations when possible to maintain a pristine environment and protect the shrimp from potential contaminants.
