Hoplisoma Burgessi

Corydoras Burgessi is a small, peaceful freshwater catfish that brings lively, bottom-dwelling activity to a tropical community tank. Often beloved by beginners and seasoned aquarists alike, Burgessi Corydoras are renowned for their friendly temperament and dependable scavenging skills, making them a valuable addition to any well-planned setup.

What makes Corydoras Burgessi special

• Gentle, group-friendly behavior: Keep them in a small school (4–6 fish) to enjoy coordinated foraging flocks that glide along the substrate.
• Efficient cleanup crew: They diligently sift through sand or fine gravel, removing leftover foods and detritus without uprooting plants.
• Substrate-friendly barbels: A soft substrate is essential to protect their delicate whisker-like barbels for long-term health and comfort.
• Hardy, adaptable residents: Thrives in a wide tropical range (typical parameters: 72–78°F / 22–26°C; pH roughly 6.5–7.5; soft to moderately hard water).
• Dynamic bottom-dwellers for tank balance: Their daytime activity adds movement to the lower levels, balancing a community tank that includes mid- and top-dwellers.

Care & setup for thriving Burgessi Corydoras

To help Corydoras Burgessi flourish, provide a spacious, well-filtered tank with a gentle flow. A smooth, sandy or fine-grained substrate protects their barbels while letting them perform their natural foraging behavior. Include hiding spots—driftwood, dense plant clusters, and gentle caves—to reduce stress and encourage natural schooling. Ensure the system is fully cycled and maintain stable water conditions to support steady health and activity.

Feeding and daily behavior

Offer a varied diet tailored to bottom-dwellers: high-quality sinking pellets, wafers, and occasional live or frozen foods. They actively feed during routine maintenance times, often joining other Burgessi in a synchronized bottom-foraging parade. In a properly stocked group, you’ll notice their social chatter and curious exploration of every corner of the tank.

Ideal tank mates

Best paired with peaceful, non-aggressive species that share similar water parameters, such as small tetras, rasboras, and other small Corydoras. Avoid large or aggressive fish that may intimidate or compete for food at feeding time.

Why choose Corydoras Burgessi

Compared with larger or more demanding bottom-dwellers, Burgessi Corydoras offer a striking combination of approachability and usefulness. They’re approachable for hobbyists building a community tank, yet robust enough to keep substrate clean and visually engaging without requiring specialized care. Their presence brings constant, engaging activity to the bottom layer of your aquarium while contributing to a balanced, healthy ecosystem.

Practical tips for success

• Choose a soft-substrate setup (sand or fine gravel) to protect their barbels and promote comfortable foraging.
• Feed a mix of sinking foods to ensure every fish gets access, especially in larger groups.
• Regular, modest water changes help maintain stability and clarity in a busy community tank.
• Introduce Corydoras Burgessi in small groups to encourage confident, cohesive schooling behavior from the start.
