Product Description

Graceful Rasbora (Trigonopoma gracile) — a peaceful, shimmering shoaling species ideal for planted nano aquariums and soft-water community tanks.

  • Water Conditions: Native to the blackwater streams of Southeast Asia, the Graceful Rasbora thrives in soft, slightly acidic water. Maintain a stable temperature between 22–28°C (72–82°F) with a pH range of 5.0–7.5 and a general hardness of 2–10 dGH. Aim for a tank capacity of at least 60 litres to accommodate a proper school. Filtration should be gentle yet efficient — sponge filters or canisters with a low flow rate replicate the calm, slow-moving waters these fish call home. Weekly water changes of 20–25% are essential to keep nitrate levels low and mimic the clean, tannin-rich environments they naturally inhabit. Adding Indian almond leaves or driftwood that leaches tannins will enhance both water chemistry and natural behaviour.
  • Tank Mates: The Graceful Rasbora is a gentle, non-aggressive species that schools beautifully and should be kept in groups of 8 or more. They make superb companions for other peaceful fish such as smaller rasboras (harlequin, chili, and lambchop), tiny tetras (neon, ember, and cardinal), and danios. Dwarf cichlids like Apistogramma species and peaceful gouramis also cohabit well, as do bottom-dwelling Corydoras catfish and small plecos. In a heavily planted setup, dwarf shrimp such as Neocaridina and Caridina species can be kept alongside, as the rasboras will not bother them. Avoid housing them with large or predatory fish like cichlids, arowanas, or aggressive barbs — the Graceful Rasbora is timid and will quickly become stressed in their presence, losing colour and refusing food.
  • Feeding Habits: An undemanding omnivore, the Graceful Rasbora accepts a varied diet with ease. Offer high-quality micro-flakes or finely crushed pellets as a staple. To promote optimal health and vibrant colouration, supplement with live or frozen foods such as daphnia, baby brine shrimp, and micro bloodworms at least 2–3 times per week. They also benefit from vegetable matter — spirulina flakes or blanched spinach will be readily accepted. Feed small portions 2–3 times daily, ensuring all food is consumed within 2–3 minutes to avoid overfeeding and subsequent water-quality issues. In a well-established planted tank, they will also graze on microfauna and biofilm, which adds natural enrichment to their diet.
  • Care Requirements: The Graceful Rasbora is a relatively easy fish to keep, but thrives when offered a carefully considered environment. Provide a densely planted aquarium with soft-leaved vegetation, driftwood, and floating plants that diffuse lighting and create shaded refuges. A dark substrate — such as fine sand or aquasoil — enhances their natural silver-pink sheen and makes the dark lateral stripe more striking. These fish are sensitive to fluctuations in water parameters, so maintain stable conditions and avoid sudden changes in temperature or pH. They are notoriously shy under harsh lighting, so rely on subdued illumination and plenty of overhang cover. Quarantine any new arrivals for 2–3 weeks before introduction. With diligent care, this species will display lively shoaling behaviour and can live for 3–5 years in captivity, making them a rewarding centrepiece for any peaceful community aquarium.
