Red Double Swordtail

Red Double Swordtail – Xiphophorus hellerii

Red Double Swordtail is a striking variant of Xiphophorus hellerii, admired for its bright red coloration and unique double sword-like tail extensions on both the upper and lower edges of the caudal fin. This rare feature makes it stand out among typical swordtails and adds a dramatic, elegant look to the aquarium.

Native to Central America, swordtails are well-known for their hardiness, adaptability, and active swimming behavior. The Red Double Swordtail combines these traits with enhanced visual appeal, making it a favorite for both beginner and experienced aquarists.

As a livebearer, this species gives birth to free-swimming fry. Males are especially eye-catching due to their extended “double sword” tail, while females are larger and lack the sword extensions. Their constant movement and vibrant color bring life and energy to any community or planted tank.
