Tank mates: Polypterus mokelembembe are peaceful, medium-to-large fish that are too big to be eaten, such as African Knifefish, African Butterfly Fish, Silver Dollars, larger Barbs (like Tinfoil Barbs), and other non-aggressive, robust species like Oscar Cichlids. Avoid small, delicate fish, aggressive species that might harass the bichir, and tank mates that could be considered prey, like smaller catfish or plecos.
