Tankmates: Not a general community fish, but one male can share a calm, well-planted tank with peaceful, non-nipping, non-long-finned species (e.g. small rasboras, Corydoras, otocinclus) and snails. Avoid other labyrinth fish, fin nippers (tiger barbs, some tetras) and fancy-finned livebearers. Bettas often hunt shrimplets and may attack adult cherry shrimp; larger Amano shrimp usually fare better.
Feeding: Insectivores/micropredators. Overfeeding is a common cause of bloat and poor water quality. Wild-caught fish may need live or frozen food before accepting pellets.

The veiltail is the classic long-finned betta, the one many Malaysians first saw in small cups at the kedai ikan hiasan. Its tail flows downward like a veil, and the dorsal and anal fins trail behind the body. It is a relaxed, graceful ikan laga that looks great in a simple planted tank.
Veiltails are usually among the most affordable long-finned bettas, which makes them a good choice for beginners and kids' first tanks. FishyHub lists veiltails from Malaysian sellers and aquarium shops, with prices in RM.
Unlike a halfmoon, a veiltail's tail does not spread to a flat 180 degrees. It is longer and droops at the end, and it often looks slightly asymmetrical. Show breeders moved toward halfmoons and plakats over the years, but the veiltail is still loved for its soft, flowing shape.
Red, blue, purple, turquoise, black, white and bicolour veiltails are common. Because they are widely bred, there is plenty of choice at lower price points.

Veiltails are often kept in tiny cups in shops, but at home they deserve a proper tank. A filtered 1-foot tank gives stable water and room to swim. Long, drooping fins tire easily, so use a sponge filter or a gentle hang-on filter, and add a broad leaf or floating plant near the surface for resting.
Our tap water is chlorinated, so add anti klorin every time you top up. Many keepers also add a piece of daun ketapang. In warm Malaysian homes a heater is rarely needed, but keep the tank out of direct sunlight and away from hot windows, where small tanks overheat quickly.
Ordinary bettas can cost as little as RM5–10, and veiltails often sit at the affordable end. Prices depend on colour and fin condition. If you are in Sabah or Sarawak, check with the seller about live delivery.
Boleh untuk sementara, tetapi tidak digalakkan. Air dalam balang kecil cepat kotor dan suhunya mudah berubah. Akuarium 1 kaki dengan penapis span jauh lebih baik.
Tukar kira-kira 20–30% air setiap minggu. Pastikan air paip sudah dirawat dengan anti klorin sebelum dimasukkan.
A halfmoon's tail spreads flat into a 180-degree D shape, while a veiltail's tail is longer and droops downward.
It's risky. Bright male guppies can trigger aggression, and some guppies nip long fins. Calmer tankmates like corydoras or snails are safer.
