Product Description

A tiger the size of a grain, patrolling the shallows in miniature.

Endler Mini Tiger (Poecilia wingei) is a peaceful 1–2cm nano livebearer with tiger-striped colour, ideal for planted community tanks and beginner fishkeepers.

  • Water conditions: Endler Mini Tiger guppies are hardy nano livebearers, but they thrive in stable, clean water rather than sudden swings. Aim for a temperature of 22–28°C (72–82°F), pH 6.8–8.0 and a general hardness of around 8–20 dGH. They adapt to a broad range of dechlorinated tap water, provided ammonia and nitrite remain at zero and nitrate is kept low, ideally below 20–40 ppm. A tank of at least 30 litres is suitable for a small trio, while 45–60 litres or more gives a more stable community setup. Use gentle filtration, such as a sponge filter or a filter with a baffled outlet, because Endler Mini Tigers prefer calm water and can be stressed by strong current. Keep a tight-fitting lid, as these small fish can jump, and maintain a regular maintenance routine with weekly partial water changes of around 25–30%. They are freshwater fish and do not need aquarium salt.
  • Suitable tank mates: Their peaceful temperament makes Endler Mini Tigers excellent community fish for similarly small, calm species. Good tank mates include small rasboras such as chili or ember rasboras, small tetras, peaceful Corydoras, Otocinclus catfish, and adult cherry shrimp. Bottom-dwelling species help keep the tank active without competing aggressively for food. Avoid large or boisterous fish, fin nippers, tiger barbs, aggressive cichlids, and any species large enough to eat a 1–2cm fish. Because males can harass females, keep at least two or three females for every male, and provide plenty of plants, moss and floating cover so females can rest and retreat. Endler Mini Tigers are livebearers and will breed readily, so plan ahead if you do not want fry; mixing sexes in a community tank will almost certainly produce babies.
  • Feeding habits: Endler Mini Tigers are omnivores with small mouths and fast metabolisms. Offer a varied diet of micro pellets, crushed quality flake food, and small live or frozen foods such as daphnia, baby brine shrimp and microworms. Feed two small portions daily, only as much as the fish can clear in a couple of minutes, and avoid overfeeding, which quickly fouls nano tanks and raises nitrate. A mix of plant-based and protein-rich foods supports condition, colour and breeding health. Because they are tiny, food must be suitably sized; crush flake between your fingers or choose a dedicated micro-granule. If you keep them with shrimp or small bottom feeders, watch that the Endlers are not stealing all the food, and target-feed the slower fish if necessary. Fasting one day a week can help prevent bloating and keep the group active.
  • Care requirements: These are undemanding but deserve proper acclimation. Float the bag, then drip-acclimatise or add small amounts of tank water over 20–30 minutes before release. Quarantine new livestock where possible and never add them to an uncycled aquarium. Provide a well-planted tank with fine-leaved plants, moss, floating plants and open swimming space; cover also gives fry somewhere to hide. Keep the group in a balanced sex ratio, monitor temperature and water quality regularly, and avoid introducing fish that are much larger or more aggressive. Endler Mini Tigers are generally hardy, but they do best with consistency: stable temperature, regular cleaning, and a varied diet. Inspect new arrivals for clamped fins, white spots or lethargy, and seek advice if symptoms appear. With basic care, they make colourful, active nano fish for planted community aquariums.
  • Breeding and long-term notes: Endler Mini Tigers are prolific livebearers, and females give birth to free-swimming fry rather than laying eggs. If breeding is intended, provide dense moss or floating plants for fry cover and feed the fry finely crushed flake or microworms once they are free-swimming. If breeding is not wanted, keep males and females separate or choose a single-sex group, because even small females can produce fry. Their small adult size of roughly 1–2cm makes them ideal for nano setups, but it also means they should not be housed with fish that view them as food. With stable water, good filtration, sensible stocking and regular feeding, Endler Mini Tiger guppies are an attractive, peaceful and beginner-friendly choice for a planted community tank.
