Siamese Fighting Fish (Betta Splendens)

Meet Betta Splendens, a wild-caught specimen from the Khlong Luang region — a genuine Siamese fighting fish that brings authentic, natural beauty to your freshwater setup. This is not a heavily bred show fish; it’s a true wild-type betta with character, resilience, and a story you can watch unfold in your own tank.

Why this wild-caught Betta Splendens stands out

• Authentic lineage: Sourced from the Khlong Luang area, offering real-world coloration and fin shape more reflective of a natural habitat than some heavily bred varieties.
• Individual variation: Each fish carries unique patterns and tones, making your aquarium a showcase of natural diversity.
• Hardy, engaging temperament: Adapted to aquarium life with a curious, responsive personality that shines once it’s settled in a stable environment.

Care you can trust for long-term health and color

• Tank size: A single Betta Splendens thrives in a 5-gallon (or larger) aquarium. Provide gentleness in flow—avoid strong filters or currents that can stress the fish.
• Water temperature: Maintain a tropical range of 76–82°F (24–28°C). A reliable heater helps keep the environment stable, which reduces stress and promotes vibrant behavior.
• Water chemistry: Aim for a pH around 6.5–7.5 with soft to moderately hard water. Regular, small water changes (about 25% weekly) keep toxins low and colors bright.
• Filtration: Choose a gentle filtration method that maintains clean water without creating strong currents. Bettas appreciate clean water and calm swimming conditions.
• Décor and hiding spots: Add plants (live or silk), driftwood, and crowns or caves to create secure zones where the fish can retreat and explore. This reduces stress and encourages natural displays.

Feeding and daily routine

• Diet: Offer high-quality betta pellets as the staple, supplemented with occasional live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp or bloodworms. Treats should be balanced to avoid overfeeding.
• Frequency: Feed small amounts 1–2 times per day. Let the fish finish within 2 minutes to prevent excess waste and maintain water quality.

Behavior, compatibility, and what to expect

• Display and territory: Males may flare and show territorial behavior, especially in shared tanks. In a single-specimen setup or with well-chosen tank mates, you’ll enjoy calm, attentive behavior and occasional flaring during introductions or feeding routines.
• Tank mates: For mixed displays, choose peaceful, slow-moving species that won’t nip fins. If you prefer simplicity, a well-decorated 5-gallon habitat with a single Betta Splendens provides a striking centerpiece without stress.

This Betta Splendens from Khlong Luang is ideal for freshwater enthusiasts who value authentic genetics, natural coloration, and a resilient fish that rewards patient, attentive care. It’s perfect for hobbyists building a small, well-maintained tank, or anyone who appreciates the story behind a wild-type betta and wants to observe its instinctive behaviors up close.
