Plastic tanks and fish bowls are the light, low-cost end of fishkeeping. An akuarium plastik is easy to carry, hard to break and handy for many jobs that a glass tank is too heavy or too pricey for: a child's first fish, a betta on a study desk, a quarantine box, or a container for separating fry. FishyHub lists plastic tanks, bowls and breeding boxes from Malaysian sellers, with prices in RM.
They are not a replacement for a proper aquarium for every fish, though. Small volumes change temperature and water quality quickly, so it helps to know what each type is good for.
Round and oval bowls are the classic gift-shop look. They have a small surface area, which limits oxygen exchange, so they suit only small, hardy fish in very light numbers, with regular water changes. Choose the largest bowl you have space for.
Rectangular plastic tanks, often with a clip-on lid, are popular for ikan laga, a few guppies, snails or udang hiasan akuarium. Some come with a small built-in filter or light. They are a good starter tank for kids because they are light and won't shatter.
Many Malaysian breeders keep bettas and guppy fry in rows of small plastic containers on a rack. Breeding boxes that hang inside a main tank let you separate pregnant livebearers, fry or an injured fish while sharing the same water.
Simple plastic tubs and tanks are useful for moving fish during tank maintenance, as a hospital tank when treating with ubat ikan, or for quarantining new fish before adding them to your display tank.

Plastic tanks and bowls are light and ship easily across Malaysia, including to Sabah and Sarawak. When comparing listings, check the actual dimensions or volume in litres (photos can make small tanks look bigger), whether a lid, filter or light is included, whether the photo is the real item or a representative image, and the seller's location and delivery options.
A tiny unfiltered bowl is hard on most fish. A larger bowl or small tank with gentle filtration and regular water changes can work for a single betta or a few small hardy fish.
Light scratches on acrylic can sometimes be polished with an acrylic polish kit, but cheaper plastic tanks are usually easier to replace. Prevent scratches by cleaning only with a soft sponge.
