Overview: The Mzuel is a striking and colorful fish species highly sought after by aquarists for its vivid hues and dynamic behavior. This tropical fish adds a splash of color and liveliness to any freshwater aquarium, making it a popular choice for both novice and experienced fish keepers. Its adaptability and relatively easy care requirements make it an ideal addition to a community tank.

Appearance:

• Coloration: Mzuels are known for their brilliant and varied coloration, often displaying a mix of vibrant reds, blues, yellows, and greens. Their scales can have a metallic sheen, adding to their eye-catching appearance.
• Body Shape: They typically have a streamlined, oval-shaped body that allows for agile movement. Their fins are often large and flowing, contributing to their elegant swimming style.
• Size: Mzuels generally grow to a medium size, making them suitable for a variety of tank sizes.

Water Conditions: To keep Mzuels healthy and thriving, maintain the following water conditions:

• Temperature: 74-80°F (23-27°C).
• pH Range: 6.5-7.5.
• Water Hardness: 5-15 dGH.
• Tank Size: A minimum of 30 gallons is recommended, though larger tanks are preferable to accommodate their active swimming habits.

Tank Setup: Create an ideal habitat for your Mzuel with the following considerations:

• Substrate: Use a soft substrate like sand or fine gravel to mimic their natural environment.
• Decor: Include rocks, driftwood, and plenty of live plants to provide hiding spots and create a stimulating environment. Ensure that any decorations are securely placed to prevent them from being knocked over.
• Filtration: A good quality filter is essential to maintain clean and well-oxygenated water. Mzuels produce moderate waste, so an efficient filtration system is necessary.
• Lighting: Moderate to bright lighting will enhance their colors and support plant growth.

Tank Mates: Mzuels are generally peaceful and can coexist with other non-aggressive species:

• Compatible Species: Tetras, rasboras, guppies, mollies, and corydoras catfish make good tank mates. Avoid housing them with overly aggressive or much larger fish.
• Schooling: Mzuels often thrive in groups of their own kind, so consider keeping them in small schools of at least six to promote natural behaviors and reduce stress.

Feeding Habit: Mzuels are omnivores with a diverse diet:

• Staple Diet: High-quality flake or pellet food should form the base of their diet.
• Supplements: Include live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms to provide additional protein and variety.
• Vegetables: Occasionally offer blanched vegetables like spinach, zucchini, and peas.
• Feeding Frequency: Feed them 2-3 times a day in small amounts to prevent overfeeding and maintain water quality.

Care and Maintenance: Ensure your Mzuel remains healthy with regular care:

• Water Changes: Perform weekly water changes of 20-30% to maintain optimal water conditions.
• Health Monitoring: Keep an eye out for signs of illness, such as changes in behavior, loss of appetite, or unusual markings. Common issues include fin rot, ich, and parasitic infections.
• Behavioral Observation: Mzuels are active and engaging fish. Regular interaction and observation can help you spot any health issues early.

Breeding: Breeding Mzuels can be an exciting endeavor:

• Pair Selection: Choose healthy and mature pairs for breeding. Conditioning them with high-quality foods can enhance breeding success.
• Spawning Environment: Provide a separate breeding tank with fine-leaved plants or spawning mops where they can lay eggs.
• Fry Care: Once the eggs hatch, remove the parents to prevent them from eating the fry. Feed the fry infusoria or specially prepared fry food until they are large enough to eat regular food.
