Product Description

Scarlet from nose to caudal fin, this albino guppy burns bright.

Shop premium Guppy AFR (Albino Full Red) 2.5–3.5cm — peaceful, vividly coloured livebearers for planted community aquariums. Fast UK delivery.

  • Strain overview and temperament: The Guppy AFR — Albino Full Red — is a premium livebearer prized for its solid red body and ruby-red albino eyes. These 2.5–3.5 cm young adults are peaceful, active and confident, making them an excellent choice for community aquariums and planted displays. Males show the strongest colour and display behaviour; females are fuller-bodied and equally hardy. Because they are albino, they benefit from subdued lighting and shaded areas, but they are not shy — they will spend much of the day foraging and swimming in the mid-to-upper water column. Keep them in groups to spread any minor aggression and encourage natural behaviour.
  • Water conditions: Stable, mature water matters more than chasing exact numbers. Aim for 24–28°C, pH 6.8–7.8, and a general hardness of 8–15 dGH. Ammonia and nitrite must read zero; keep nitrate below 20 ppm with regular partial water changes. Use a cycled filter with gentle to moderate flow, a reliable heater and a lid, as guppies can jump. A 40–60 litre tank suits a small group, while larger volumes dilute waste and buffer parameters. Albino eyes are light-sensitive, so include floating plants, driftwood shade or dimmable lighting. Acclimatise new fish by drip method over 30–45 minutes and quarantine where possible.
  • Suitable tank mates: Choose peaceful, similarly sized community fish that won't nip fins or eat small tankmates. Good companions include ember and neon tetras, harlequin rasboras, corydoras, otocinclus, nerite snails and adult cherry shrimp — though shrimp fry may be predated. Avoid tiger barbs, serpae tetras, large cichlids, goldfish, angelfish and aggressive or predatory species. Betta compatibility varies by individual, so monitor closely if attempting it. Keep a ratio of one male to two or three females to reduce harassment, and avoid mixing with fancy guppy strains if you want to preserve the Albino Full Red line. Provide plants and caves for retreat.
  • Feeding habits: Guppies are omnivores with small mouths and high metabolisms. Feed two to three small meals daily — only what is eaten in one to two minutes — using a high-quality micro-pellet or crushed flake as the staple. Rotate in frozen or live brine shrimp, daphnia and microworms for protein, plus spirulina-rich foods and carotenoid supplements to support the intense red coloration. Avoid overfeeding, which fouls water and causes bloating; remove uneaten food. Fry and juveniles need smaller foods such as infusoria, baby brine shrimp and finely crushed flake. A varied diet keeps adults colourful, active and more likely to breed successfully.
  • Care requirements: Perform a 25–30% water change weekly, gravel-vacuum lightly and rinse filter media in tank water to preserve beneficial bacteria. Test pH, temperature, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate regularly, and keep parameters stable — albino strains can be slightly more sensitive to stress and poor water quality. Watch for fin rot, ich and columnaris, and act early with improved husbandry or treatment. Provide live or silk plants, floating cover and gentle flow; avoid overcrowding. Because guppies breed readily, decide whether to separate sexes or allow natural population growth, and have a plan for fry. Handle with care and never release livestock into the wild.
  • Ideal tank setup: A species or community tank of 40–60 litres or more works well, with a gentle filter, heater and tight-fitting lid. Use a dark substrate to make the red coloration pop, and include live plants such as Java fern, Anubias, hornwort and floating species for cover and natural grazing. Keep lighting moderate and provide shaded zones for albino eyes. Avoid strong currents; a sponge filter or baffled output is ideal. Cycle the tank fully before adding fish, and add guppies in small groups rather than singly. These 2.5–3.5 cm fish will grow and colour up further with good food and stable water.
