Guppy (Albino Full Red Big Dorsal)

Albino and blazing red, its oversized dorsal unfurls like a banner in slow current.

Albino Full Red Big Dorsal Guppies are stunning livebearers with brilliant red coloration, oversized dorsal fins. Hardy, peaceful, perfect for community tanks.

• Water Conditions: Albino Full Red Big Dorsal Guppies thrive in a tropical aquarium with stable parameters. Ideal temperature ranges from 22–28°C (72–82°F), though 24–26°C is optimal for long-term health. pH should be kept between 6.8 and 7.8, and general hardness (dGH) between 8 and 18. These livebearers appreciate slightly hard, alkaline water, but they are adaptable as long as conditions remain consistent. Ammonia and nitrite must always read zero, and nitrate should be kept below 20 ppm through regular water changes. A minimum tank size of 10 gallons (45 litres) is suitable for a small group, but larger tanks (20 gallons+) provide more stability and reduce aggression. Use a gentle filtration system, such as a sponge filter or a baffled hang-on-back filter, to avoid strong currents that can stress their oversized dorsal fins. Perform a 25% water change weekly, vacuuming the substrate to remove debris. Because the albino strain lacks dark pigmentation, they can be more sensitive to poor water quality and sudden shifts in parameters. Always acclimate new fish slowly and test water regularly to maintain a healthy environment.
• Tank Mates: These guppies are peaceful and do well in a community aquarium with other non-aggressive species. Ideal tank mates include other guppies (including Endlers), mollies, platies, small tetras such as neon or ember tetras, rasboras like harlequins, corydoras catfish, otocinclus, and peaceful dwarf gouramis. Bottom dwellers like kuhli loaches and bristlenose plecos also work well. Avoid any fish known to nip fins, as the large dorsal fin of this strain is an easy target. Steer clear of tiger barbs, serpae tetras, male bettas, and most cichlids (except peaceful dwarf species in large tanks). Large predatory fish will eat guppies. Invertebrates like snails and adult cherry shrimp are generally safe, but guppies may prey on shrimplets. Because they are livebearers, guppies breed readily. If you keep males and females together, expect fry. To reduce harassment, keep at least two or three females for every male. A ratio of 1 male to 3 females is ideal. If you do not want babies, keep only males or separate sexes. A group of 6–10 guppies creates a stunning, active display. Always quarantine new tank mates to prevent introducing disease.
• Feeding Habits: Albino Full Red Big Dorsal Guppies are omnivores that require a varied diet to maintain vibrant colour and robust health. Their primary diet should consist of high-quality flake food or micro pellets formulated for tropical livebearers. Supplement with live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia, bloodworms, and microworms. These protein-rich foods enhance colouration and encourage breeding. Vegetable matter is also important; offer spirulina flakes, blanched spinach, zucchini, or cucumber slices once or twice a week. Guppies are surface feeders but will graze on algae and microorganisms throughout the tank. Feed small amounts two to three times daily, only as much as they can consume in two minutes. Overfeeding leads to obesity, poor water quality, and disease. Because albino fish may have reduced eyesight, ensure food is distributed where they can easily find it. Pregnant females need extra nutrition, so offer additional live or frozen foods. A varied diet also boosts their immune system, helping them resist common ailments. Remember that guppies have tiny stomachs; frequent, small meals are far better than one large feeding.
• Care Requirements: Providing proper care ensures your Albino Full Red Big Dorsal Guppies live long, healthy lives. Set up a well-planted aquarium with live or artificial plants, especially floating plants like duckweed or water sprite, to provide shade. The albino strain can be sensitive to intense light, so shaded areas help reduce stress. Include hiding spots such as caves, driftwood, and moss to give females a break from males. A tight-fitting lid is essential because guppies can jump. Acclimate new arrivals using the drip method over 30–45 minutes to avoid shock. Maintain a consistent maintenance schedule: weekly water changes of 25%, gravel vacuuming, and filter rinsing in tank water. Test water parameters regularly. Watch for signs of illness such as clamped fins, lethargy, or white spots. Quarantine new fish for at least two weeks. Breeding is straightforward; females give birth to live fry every 28 days or so. Provide dense floating plants or a breeding box for fry to hide. Feed fry infrequently with microworms, baby brine shrimp, or crushed flakes. The large dorsal fin can be prone to nipping or fin rot if water quality declines, so keep conditions pristine. With proper care, these guppies can live 2–3 years. Their hardy nature makes them suitable for beginners, but they still deserve attentive care.
