Males display a striking gradient of iridescent silver and blue hues, accentuated with vibrant orange and black accents on their tails and dorsal fins. Females are slightly larger, showing a more subdued silver-grey colouration with a healthy, rounded body shape. This micro livebearer reaches a maximum size of only 2-3 cm, making it one of the smallest and most desirable species for nano aquariums and planted display tanks. Their energetic, darting swimming style and constant movement add life and dynamism to any aquatic environment.
• Water Conditions: The Endler El Silverado thrives in tropical freshwater conditions. Maintain a stable water temperature between 24°C and 27°C (75-81°F) for optimal health and activity. The ideal pH range is 6.5 to 7.5, with moderate water hardness of 8-20 dGH. These fish are remarkably adaptable, but they truly flourish in clean, well-oxygenated water with low nitrate levels. Regular water changes of 25% per week are essential to maintain water quality. A well-established filtration system with gentle flow is recommended, as strong currents can stress these small fish. Always avoid sudden fluctuations in water parameters, as this can weaken their immune system.
• Suitable Tank Mates: Endler El Silverado are peaceful and social creatures that make excellent community fish. They should be kept in groups of at least 6-8 individuals to feel secure and exhibit natural schooling behaviour. Ideal tank mates include other peaceful nano fish such as neon tetras, ember tetras, celestial pearl danios, and chili rasboras. They coexist harmoniously with other livebearers including guppies, other Endler variants, and small platies. Invertebrate enthusiasts will be delighted to know these fish are completely shrimp-safe, making them perfect companions for cherry shrimp, Amano shrimp, and dwarf shrimp species. Small bottom-dwelling catfish like pygmy corydoras and otocinclus also make excellent tank mates. It is crucial to avoid housing them with aggressive or fin-nipping species, adult bettas, large cichlids, or any fish large enough to see them as prey.
• Feeding Habits: Endler El Silverado are omnivorous and have a hearty appetite. They will readily accept a varied diet of high-quality flake food and micro-pellets as a staple. To promote vibrant coloration and optimal health, supplement their diet with live or frozen foods such as baby brine shrimp, daphnia, micro-worms, and finely chopped blackworms.
