Product Description

Barely four centimeters of albino ribbon, drifting like a forgotten strip of sky.

The Albino Sky Ribbon Fin C is a peaceful, 3-4cm catfish ideal for community tanks. Its albino body and flowing fins add elegance to any aquarium. Ideal for beginners.

  • Water Conditions: These catfish thrive in stable, well-oxygenated water with a temperature range of 22–26°C (72–79°F). The pH should be slightly acidic to neutral, ideally between 6.5 and 7.5, with a general hardness (dGH) of 2–15 and carbonate hardness (dKH) of 2–10. Ammonia and nitrite must always read zero, and nitrate should be kept below 20 ppm through regular water changes. A soft, sandy substrate is essential to protect their delicate barbels and long ribbon-like fins from abrasion. Avoid sharp gravel or rough decorations. Provide gentle water flow from a filter or powerhead, but not so strong that it stresses these peaceful bottom-dwellers. Because they are albino, their eyes are sensitive to bright light; include shaded areas using floating plants, driftwood, or caves. A tank of at least 60 litres (13 gallons) is recommended for a group of six, as they are social and feel more secure in numbers. Maintain a consistent temperature and avoid sudden fluctuations, which can lead to stress and disease. Regular partial water changes of 25% per week will keep parameters stable and pristine.
  • Suitable Tank Mates: Albino Sky Ribbon Fin C are exceptionally peaceful and should be kept with other non-aggressive, community-oriented species. Ideal tank mates include small tetras (e.g., neon, cardinal, ember), rasboras (harlequin, chili), peaceful livebearers (guppies, platies), and other small catfish such as Corydoras species. They also do well with dwarf cichlids like Apistogramma or Bolivian rams, provided the tank has plenty of hiding spots. Avoid any fish that are known fin-nippers, such as tiger barbs, serpae tetras, or certain loaches, because the long, flowing ribbon fins of this variety are especially vulnerable to nipping and subsequent infection. Large or aggressive species, including most Central American cichlids, large gouramis, and predatory catfish, will bully or eat these small catfish. Bottom-dwelling tank mates like bristlenose plecos are generally fine, but avoid keeping them with other bottom-feeders that may compete aggressively for food, such as botia loaches. Always research compatibility before adding new fish, and remember that a group of at least six Albino Sky Ribbon Fin C is essential to prevent them from becoming shy and reclusive. A harmonious community will allow their peaceful nature to shine.
  • Feeding Habits: These catfish are omnivorous bottom-feeders with a hearty appetite. In the wild, they sift through sand for small invertebrates, insect larvae, and plant matter. In the aquarium, offer a varied diet to ensure optimal health and vibrant colour. High-quality sinking pellets or wafers designed for bottom-dwellers should form the staple, supplemented with frozen or live foods such as bloodworms, daphnia, brine shrimp, and blackworms. They will also accept blanched vegetables like zucchini, cucumber, and spinach, which provide essential fibre. Because they are crepuscular (most active at dawn and dusk), feed them once in the morning and once in the evening, offering only as much as they can consume in a few minutes. Overfeeding is a common mistake that leads to obesity and poor water quality. Remove any uneaten food after 10–15 minutes to prevent it from decaying. Since they are bottom-feeders, ensure that food reaches the substrate; avoid floating flakes that other fish will steal. A varied diet strengthens their immune system and helps maintain the delicate ribbon fins. If breeding, condition them with additional live or frozen foods. Always thaw frozen foods before feeding and never use food that has been left out. A well-fed Albino Sky Ribbon Fin C will be active, social, and long-lived.
  • Care Requirements: Proper care is crucial for the long-term health of Albino Sky Ribbon Fin C, especially given their albino eyes and long, flowing fins. Perform a 25% water change weekly using a gravel vacuum to remove debris from the substrate, but be gentle around the fish. Use a filter that provides biological, mechanical, and chemical filtration, but ensure the intake is covered to prevent these small catfish from being sucked in. Test water parameters regularly with a liquid test kit; stability is more important than chasing perfect numbers. They are sensitive to medications like copper and formalin, so use half-doses and consult a vet if in doubt. Avoid sudden temperature changes. Provide plenty of hiding places: caves, PVC pipes, driftwood, and smooth rocks. Live plants, especially floating varieties, offer shade and improve water quality. Long fins can be prone to fin rot if water quality declines, so maintain pristine conditions. If you notice fin clamping, lethargy, or loss of colour, test the water immediately and consider a quarantine tank. These fish are social; keep them in groups of six or more to reduce stress. They are easy to breed in captivity: condition a group, then perform a cool water change to simulate the rainy season. Eggs are scattered on plants or glass and hatch in 3–5 days. With proper care, they can live 5–8 years. Always quarantine new additions to prevent disease introduction.
