Product Description

Admire the Endler El Tigre — a dazzling livebearer with tiger-striped patterns, perfect for nano tanks and planted community aquariums alike.

  • Water Conditions — The Endler El Tigre thrives in warm, well-filtered water with a temperature range of 22–28°C (72–82°F). Keep the pH slightly alkaline to neutral, between 6.5 and 8.0, and maintain moderate to hard water hardness (8–20 dGH). These fish are quite adaptable but prefer stable conditions; regular weekly water changes of 25–30% are essential to keep nitrates low and water clarity high. A gentle to moderate filter flow is ideal, as strong currents can stress these small livebearers. A minimum tank size of 10 gallons (40 litres) is recommended for a small group of 5–6 individuals, though a heavily planted 5-gallon nano tank can also work if water quality is meticulously maintained. Avoid sudden swings in temperature or chemistry, as this can lead to stress-related diseases such as ich or fin rot.
  • Ideal Tank Mates — The Endler El Tigre is a peaceful, sociable species that does best in a community of calm, non-aggressive fish. Excellent tank mates include other Endler varieties, small tetras like neon or ember tetras, micro rasboras such as chili or harlequin rasboras, and small corydoras catfish. They also coexist beautifully with dwarf shrimp (Neocaridina species) and peaceful snails like Nerite or Mystery snails, which help keep the tank clean. Avoid housing them with large or predatory species such as oscars, angelfish, or large cichlids, as these may view Endlers as prey. Similarly, avoid fin-nipping fish like tiger barbs or aggressive bettas, which can harass and stress the Endlers. A good rule of thumb is to keep at least two females for every male (a 2:1 or 3:1 ratio) to distribute male attention and reduce stress among females.
  • Feeding Habits — As omnivores, Endler El Tigre will eagerly accept a varied diet. Provide high-quality flake food or micro-pellets as a staple, supplemented with live foods like baby brine shrimp, daphnia, or microworms to enhance colour and vitality. Frozen foods such as bloodworms and brine shrimp are also excellent treats. To ensure balanced nutrition, include vegetable matter like spirulina flakes, blanched spinach, or zucchini slices a couple of times per week. Feed small amounts two to three times daily, only offering what they can consume within two minutes to prevent overfeeding and water pollution. A varied diet not only keeps them healthy but also intensifies their tiger-striped colouration and promotes active, natural foraging behaviour.
  • Care Requirements — The Endler El Tigre is a hardy, beginner-friendly fish that rewards attentive keepers with vibrant colour and lively antics. Provide a densely planted aquarium with hardy species like Java moss, Anubias, or Hornwort, which offer shelter and mimic their natural habitat. Floating plants are particularly appreciated, as they diffuse light and create shaded areas where fry can hide. These livebearers are prolific breeders; if kept with males and females, you will likely see young fry appearing within weeks. To raise a healthy population, provide a refugium or dense thickets of moss where fry can evade adult predation. Maintain a gentle filtration system and perform regular water testing to monitor ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels. With proper care, Endler El Tigre have a lifespan of 2–3 years and will thrive in groups of five or more. They are social creatures and will display more confident, natural behaviour when kept in a correctly sized shoal.
