T5HO (T5 high output) lamps are slim fluorescent tubes that deliver bright, even light across the whole tank. LEDs have taken over many setups, but plenty of planted-tank and reef keepers in Malaysia still run lampu tiub T5 fixtures, or mix T5 with LEDs, because of their smooth coverage and natural colour.

Tubes around 6,500K to 10,000K give a crisp white light that suits planted tanks and general viewing.
These have more red and pink in the spectrum. They boost plant colour and are often mixed with a daylight tube.

Low-tech planted tanks may only need one or two tubes. High-tech planted and reef tanks usually run four or more, each with its own reflector.
T5HO fixtures give off more heat than LEDs. In a room already at 28–31°C, a multi-tube fixture sitting low over the water can warm the tank a degree or two. Raise the fixture slightly, make sure it has airflow, and add a kipas akuarium (cooling fan) if your temperature creeps up. Reef tanks with heavy T5 lighting often need a chiller in Malaysia anyway.
Humidity is the other enemy. Waterproof end caps and splash covers protect the contacts, and they last longer if you keep salt spray and condensation away.
T5HO tubes keep glowing long after their useful output has dropped. Many keepers replace them roughly every 9–12 months, and stagger replacements so plants and corals aren't hit with a sudden jump in brightness. A new tube can be noticeably stronger, so shorten the light hours for a week after changing.
