A jungle aquarium is the underwater version of a Malaysian rainforest: dense green growth, tangled wood and fish weaving in and out of the plants. The Jungle Adventure Pack is a FishyHub starter kit for this style, combining the tank, equipment and pokok aquascape essentials you need for a lush planted tank in one bundle.
It suits beginners who want live plants from day one and hobbyists moving on from a plain gravel tank. Jungle layouts are forgiving, because a few untidy plants only add to the wild look. Packs come from Malaysian sellers with prices in RM.
Unlike a strict Iwagumi, a jungle tank mixes many plant shapes and heights. Tall stems and grasses fill the back, bushy plants sit in the middle, and wood or rock gives the plants something to grow around. A clear swimming lane through the middle keeps it from looking like a hedge.
Driftwood and branches are the backbone. Locally collected kayu akuarium and Malaysian driftwood work well here and release tannins that tint the water a light tea colour, similar to our peat-swamp streams. Rocks help anchor the wood and add height.
Common jungle plants include Cryptocoryne, Java fern, Anubias, Bucephalandra, Vallisneria, Hygrophila, mosses and floating plants. Several Cryptocoryne species and Bucephalandra are native to Malaysia and Borneo, so they suit a regional biotope feel. Choose farm-grown or tissue-culture plants rather than wild-collected ones.
| Setup | Lighting | CO2 | Plants | Upkeep |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Low tech | Moderate LED | None | Anubias, Java fern, Crypts, moss, easy stems | Light trimming every few weeks |
| High tech | Strong LED | Pressurised | Faster stem plants, red plants | Regular trimming, fertiliser dosing |
For a first jungle tank, low tech (tanpa CO2) is usually the easier and more forgiving start.
Dense planting gives shy fish cover. Depending on tank size, good choices include rasboras, tetras, guppies, small gouramis, corydoras, a single betta and udang hiasan akuarium such as cherry shrimp. Malaysian-bred tetras and guppies are easy to find and well suited to our water temperature. Always stock by tank volume, not by how full the plants look.
Check which plants are included, how many portions, whether they are potted, tissue culture or bare-root, and whether the photo is the actual pack. Confirm the tank size, light and substrate. Ask the seller about delivery timing and how plants are packed, especially to Sabah and Sarawak.
Anubias, Java fern, Cryptocoryne dan moss adalah antara yang paling mudah. Pokok ini tumbuh perlahan tetapi tahan lasak, sesuai untuk tangki jungle low tech.
Kayu akuarium melepaskan tanin. Ia tidak berbahaya kepada ikan, malah sesuai untuk ikan dari air hitam. Kalau mahu air lebih jernih, rendam kayu lebih lama atau guna karbon dalam penapis.
A low-tech jungle tank may only need trimming every few weeks. With CO2 and strong light, stem plants can need trimming every week or two.
Yes. Bettas enjoy dense plants and gentle flow. Avoid fin-nipping tankmates and keep filter output soft.
