Inpaichthys Luizae 'Black Arrow'

Meet Inpaichthys Luizae, the Black Arrow Tetra — a rare, high-impact freshwater fish that’s just entering the aquarium hobby. Formally described in January 2025, this striking species hails from the Rio Tapajós basin in Brazil, bringing a fresh wave of Amazonian intrigue to modern tanks.

What makes the Black Arrow Tetra stand out

Designed for aquarists who crave something truly distinctive, the Black Arrow Tetra features a sleek, dark silhouette and a bold, arrow-like cues in its body shape. Its dramatic coloration and poised, graceful swimming style create a visually compelling presence, whether you’re building a dedicated tetra school or a centerpiece display in a mixed community tank.

Ideal tank mates and behavior

This species thrives as a peaceful, schooling fish. In a suitably sized group (6–8 or more), it reveals natural social behavior, darting and gliding through mid to upper water levels. Pairing it with non-aggressive tankmates that share the same tropical tempo helps reduce stress and showcases its movement and color best. Plan open swimming space alongside planted areas or driftwood hides to create a balanced, visually dynamic aquarium.

Care essentials in plain terms

• Tank setup: a well-filtered, stable freshwater environment with moderate flow and ample swimming room.
• Diet: an adaptable omnivore that accepts high-quality flakes or pellets, plus occasional live or frozen foods to enrich feeding rituals.
• Maintenance: routine water quality, gradual parameter changes, and quarantine for new arrivals help keep the Black Arrow Tetra looking its best.
• Origin note: native to Brazil’s Rio Tapajós basin, which informs its preference for clean, well-oxygenated water and a stable tropical climate in captivity.

Why choose Inpaichthys Luizae over other tetras?

Beyond its rarity, the Black Arrow Tetra delivers a bold aesthetic that’s hard to match among common tetra varieties. Its unique dark, arrow-shaped profile provides a dramatic focal point in any aquarium, making it ideal for experienced hobbyists seeking a standout specimen or collectors building a purposefully curated plant-and-fish tableau.

Practical tips to get the most from your Black Arrow Tetras

• Introduce them in a calm, well-established tank to minimize stress during acclimation.
• Keep a consistent schedule for feeding and water changes to preserve their vivid coloration.
• Observe schooling behavior; a larger group will display more natural movement and reduce individually displayed stress.
• Source from reputable breeders or suppliers who prioritize health and ethical care to ensure robust, ready-to-thrive specimens.

With its rare lineage, formal description in 2025, and origin in Brazil’s Rio Tapajós basin, the Black Arrow Tetra is more than a fish—it’s a statement piece for serious hobbyists who value both beauty and a compelling story behind their aquarium residents. Add Inpaichthys Luizae to your tank and witness a living accent that elevates your setup from beautiful to unforgettable.
