Product Description

Feeder Frogs

"Introduce the natural behavior of Feeder Frogs to your aquarium. Learn about their care, tank mates, and feeding habits."

- Natural Behavior: Feeder Frogs, also known as African Dwarf Frogs (Hymenochirus sp.), are fascinating aquatic amphibians that bring a touch of the wild to your aquarium. They exhibit intriguing behaviors like swimming, hopping, and resting on plant leaves or substrate, providing an engaging and naturalistic experience for observers.

- Water Conditions: Feeder Frogs thrive in freshwater aquariums with stable water conditions. Maintain a temperature range of 75°F to 82°F (24°C to 28°C) and a pH level between 6.5 and 7.5. Regular water changes and good filtration are essential to ensure optimal water quality and promote the health of these frogs.

- Tank Size and Setup: Provide a suitable environment for Feeder Frogs by setting up a well-planted aquarium with ample swimming space and hiding spots. A tank size of at least 10 gallons (38 liters) is recommended for a small group of frogs. Include aquatic plants, floating plants, and gentle water movement to mimic their natural habitat.

- Tank Mates: Feeder Frogs are generally peaceful and can coexist with compatible fish and invertebrates. Suitable tank mates include peaceful community fish like tetras, rasboras, guppies, and dwarf shrimp. Avoid keeping them with aggressive or fin-nipping fish that may harm or stress the frogs.

- Feeding Habit: Feeder Frogs are carnivorous and primarily eat small live or frozen foods. Offer them a varied diet of bloodworms, brine shrimp, daphnia, and small insects to provide essential nutrients. It's important to ensure that the food items are appropriately sized for the frogs to consume easily.

- Care and Maintenance: Feeder Frogs require attentive care to thrive in captivity. Regularly monitor water parameters such as temperature, pH, and ammonia levels. Perform regular water changes to maintain good water quality. Ensure a suitable diet and feed them small amounts of food several times a week to prevent overfeeding.

- Compatibility with Other Pets: Feeder Frogs are not recommended to be housed with aquatic turtles or larger predatory fish that may view them as prey. Ensure the tank is secure and that there are no escape routes, as these frogs may jump out of open aquariums.

In conclusion, Feeder Frogs, or African Dwarf Frogs, bring a touch of nature to your aquarium with their engaging behavior and aquatic lifestyle. By providing suitable water conditions, compatible tank mates, and a varied diet, you can ensure the health and well-being of these fascinating amphibians in your aquarium. Enjoy observing their natural behaviors as they hop, swim, and rest in their aquatic habitat.
