The tiger oscar, or Astronotus ocellatus, is a species of freshwater fish native to South America. They are named for their distinctive black and orange striped pattern, which resembles that of a tiger. Tiger oscars are relatively large fish, growing up to 12-14 inches in length. They are known for their aggressive behavior and territorial nature, and are not suitable for community aquariums. Instead, they are best kept in large aquariums with plenty of hiding places and swimming room. Tiger oscars are also popular among experienced aquarium hobbyists for their impressive size and striking appearance.
