Product Details

  1. Appearance: Lilaeopsis brasiliensis features thin, grass-like leaves that form dense, low-growing mats. The leaves are typically bright green and can reach a height of a few centimeters when grown under optimal conditions.

  2. Growth: Lilaeopsis brasiliensis has a relatively slow growth rate compared to some other foreground plants. It spreads through runners that develop horizontally along the substrate, creating a carpet-like effect over time. Regular trimming may be required to maintain a neat appearance.

  3. Lighting and CO2 Requirements: Lilaeopsis brasiliensis can adapt to a range of lighting conditions, from low to high intensity. However, providing moderate to high lighting (2-3 watts per gallon or 0.5-0.8 watts per liter) will encourage healthier growth and more compact carpets. While it can grow without additional CO2 supplementation, injecting CO2 into the aquarium can promote faster and denser growth.

  4. Water Parameters: Lilaeopsis brasiliensis prefers water with the following parameters:

    • Temperature: 68-82°F (20-28°C)
    • pH: 6.0-7.5
    • Hardness: Soft to moderately hard water (2-15 dKH)
  5. Substrate: Lilaeopsis brasiliensis benefits from a nutrient-rich substrate. A fine-grained substrate like sand or small-sized gravel is recommended to allow the plant's runners to spread and establish. Adding root tabs or liquid fertilizers specifically formulated for aquatic plants can provide additional nutrients.

  6. Placement: Lilaeopsis brasiliensis is commonly used as a foreground plant, creating a lush carpet effect in the aquarium. It should be planted in the substrate, leaving enough space between individual plants for them to spread. Ensure that the runners are in contact with the substrate to promote new growth.
