Product Details

This especially decorative Cryptocoryne is traded as "Cryptocoryne affinis" and "C. affinis Rot". It resembles true Cryptocoryne affinis as submerged plant but turned out as a form of Cryptocoryne wendtii when it flowered. Therefore we name it provisionally Cryptocoryne wendtii "Affinis Rot".
Its submerged leaves have a red-brown ground colour, lighter longitudinal nerves and a pattern of darker stripes. The underside of the leaves is brown-red. In its terrestrial form, this Cryptocoryne develops inconspicuously green leaves with long stalks.

As well as other Cryptocorynes of the Sri Lanka species group, this plant is an easy, adaptable aquarium plant, also growing in harder water. It also tolerates little light but develops better with medium lighting. A nutrient-rich bottom is important. The plant develops a dense stand by its underground runners.

Cryptocoryne wendtii "Affinis Red" is very decorative as a group in the midground, in bigger tanks also in the foreground.

It prefers slightly acidic to neutral water with a pH range of 6.0-7.5. This plant can tolerate a moderate to low lighting intensity of 1-2 watts per gallon, making it suitable for aquariums with less intense lighting setups. Additionally, it can thrive in a broad temperature range of 68-82°F (20-28°C), making it suitable for both tropical and slightly cooler setups.

When it comes to tank mates, the Cryptocoryne Wendtii Affinis Red is compatible with a variety of fish and invertebrates. It's a peaceful plant that won't cause any harm to its tank companions. However, it's essential to consider the potential for herbivorous fish to nibble on its delicate leaves. Therefore, it's advisable to keep this plant alongside species that are not known for excessive browsing or grazing habits.

Feeding the Cryptocoryne Wendtii Affinis Red is a relatively simple process. As a root-feeding plant, it primarily derives nutrients from the substrate. However, supplementing with a nutrient-rich substrate or adding root tabs can promote healthy growth and vibrant colors. Additionally, a liquid fertilizer can be used to provide essential nutrients to the water column.

Care for the Cryptocoryne Wendtii Affinis Red involves maintaining a well-maintained aquarium with proper filtration and regular water changes to ensure optimal water quality. Pruning any yellowing or decaying leaves is necessary to maintain the plant's overall health and appearance. Additionally, this plant appreciates stable water conditions, so avoiding drastic changes in temperature or water chemistry is crucial.

In summary, the Cryptocoryne Wendtii Affinis Red (Pot) is a visually striking and relatively easy-to-care-for aquatic plant that can add a vibrant touch to any aquarium. By providing it with the right water conditions, suitable tank mates, regular feeding, and proper care, you can enjoy the captivating beauty of this plant for years to come.
