Otocinclus, also known as Dwarf Suckermouth Catfish, are small, peaceful, and active freshwater fish that are native to South America. They are popular aquarium fish, especially for planted tanks, as they feed on algae and help keep the tank clean. Otocinclus have a flattened body with a suckermouth that they use to attach themselves to surfaces, allowing them to graze on algae and other microorganisms. They are social fish and should be kept in groups of at least five individuals to promote natural behavior and reduce stress. Otocinclus require a well-maintained aquarium with plenty of hiding places and gentle water movement. They can be fed algae wafers, vegetables, and small amounts of live or frozen foods.
