Ideal Tankmates

Since Moscow Super Blacks are peaceful but possess heavy, flowing fins, avoid "fin-nippers" that might damage their dark tails.

Contrasting Schoolers: Brightly colored, peaceful species like Cardinal Tetras or White Cloud Mountain Minnows provide a visual pop against the black guppies.

Bottom Dwellers: Albino Corydoras are excellent because their white/pinkish bodies stand out against dark substrates, and they occupy the bottom level.

Invertebrates: Orange Sakura Shrimp or Yellow Goldenback Shrimp provide a vivid colour contrast and serve as a secondary cleanup crew.

Avoid: Serpae Tetras or Rosy Barbs, which are notorious for nipping long-finned varieties.

Environmental Configuration

Visual Contrast: Use a lighter-coloured substrate, such as natural river sand or light gravel, to prevent the fish from "disappearing" into the shadows.

Water Parameters: For 2026, standard breeding protocols recommend a stable temperature of 74–78°F (23–26°C) and a pH of 7.0–8.2.

Filtration: Use a high-quality sponge filter or a baffled power filter. Moscow Super Blacks can be heavy, making it difficult for them to swim against strong currents.

Aqua scaping: Incorporate vibrant green plants like Amazon Swords or Moneywort. The deep green foliage makes the solid black of the guppies appear even more intense.
