Kuhlii Loach – Pangio kuhlii
Kuhlii Loach, scientifically known as Pangio kuhlii, is a unique and fascinating freshwater fish recognized for its slender, eel-like body and distinctive black-and-yellow banded pattern. Native to Southeast Asia, including Indonesia and Malaysia, this species thrives in soft, slow-moving waters rich in leaf litter and vegetation.
Often called the “coolie loach,” this species is a favorite among aquarists for its peaceful temperament and interesting nocturnal behavior. During the day, Kuhlii Loaches tend to hide under driftwood, plants, or substrate, while at night they become more active, exploring the bottom of the tank.
They are excellent clean-up crew fish, constantly scavenging leftover food without disturbing plants or other tank inhabitants. Their snake-like movement and shy personality make them both entertaining and beneficial in planted aquariums and community setups.
