The Amazon Sword is a long known, time-tested aquarium plant from tropical South America. It differs from E. grisebachii 'Bleherae' by considerably narrower leaves. This Echinodorus wild type is quite undemanding, however medium light intensity and a nutrient-rich substrate are recommendable.

Echinodorus 'Amazonicus' develops a large, conspicuous rosette with countless leaves. It is especially recommended for large tanks with e.g. Discus or angelfish (Pterophyllum). The latter often use the swordplant leaves as spawning ground.

When it comes to water conditions, the Rotala Macrandra thrives in slightly acidic to neutral water with a pH range of 6.0-7.5. It prefers a moderate to high level of lighting, around 2-4 watts per gallon, to maintain its vibrant coloration. Additionally, this plant benefits from the presence of CO2 supplementation, which promotes healthy growth and enhances the intensity of its red hues. It's important to maintain a stable water temperature between 72-82°F (22-28°C) to ensure optimal growth.

known for excessive browsing or grazing habits.

Feeding the Rotala Macrandra is relatively straightforward. As a submerged aquatic plant, it derives most of its nutrients from the water column and substrate. However, supplementing with a quality liquid fertilizer or root tabs can help ensure it receives adequate nutrition for healthy growth and vibrant coloration. Regular pruning is also necessary to prevent overcrowding and encourage bushier growth.

When it comes to care, the Rotala Macrandra requires a well-maintained aquarium with proper filtration and regular water changes to maintain water quality. It's important to monitor for any signs of nutrient deficiencies, such as stunted growth or pale leaves, as it may indicate a need for adjustments in the care routine.

In summary, the Rotala Macrandra is a stunning aquatic plant that can add a touch of elegance to any aquarium. By providing it with the right water conditions, suitable tank mates, regular feeding, and proper care, you can enjoy the beauty of this plant for years to come.
