Tank mates: Hard to find. Puffers are territorial and predatory; suitable companions are limited to other large, fast-moving, or very peaceful species that can hold their own, but most aquarists successfully keep Pustulatus puffers in a species-only tank with a soft sandy substrate, dense plants, and many hiding places. If you must choose tank mates, consider very large, robust fish like certain large barbs or fast-swimming triggerfish and eels, but be prepared for potential aggression, especially if the puffer is small.
