With high contrast black and white markings and large dorsal and caudal fins, the Galaxy or Vampire Pleco is a popular species typically originating from the Orinoco drainage in Colombia. A similar, possibly related species is found in the Tocantins River in Brazil. Like most plecos in the genus Leporacanthicus, the L240 are primarily carnivores, and prefer protein rich foods.
