Common Name: Anubias Dark Angel

Anubias Barteri Dark Angel is a compact smaller variety of Anubias. Its ovate leaves are a darker green when compared to the average Anubias leaves and have mild ruffles along the edges. These dark green leaves contrast well against lighter hardscape and plants.

Being an epiphyte, Anubias grow best being attached to hardscape such as wood or stone. It is crucial to avoid burying the rhizome as this can cause the plant to rot. They have low to medium light requirements and can benefit from regular fertilization. CO2 is not necessary but can promote faster growth and more robust leaves. Since it's a slow grower, the leaves are susceptible to algae growth if placed under high lighting.  Given adequate time, Anubias can adapt to grow in either submerged or emersed conditions. To propagate Anubias, simple cut apart the rhizome and replant in the desired location.

but it is also relatively easy to care for, making it a suitable choice for both beginners and experienced hobbyists.

When it comes to water conditions, the Bolbitis Heteroclite Asiatica thrives in slightly acidic to neutral water with a pH range of 6.0-7.5. It can tolerate a wide range of water temperatures, but it prefers tropical aquariums with temperatures between 72-82°F (22-28°C). Moderate to high lighting levels, around 2-4 watts per gallon, are ideal for this plant to ensure healthy growth and development.

In terms of tank mates, the Bolbitis Heteroclite Asiatica is generally compatible with a variety of fish species and invertebrates. However, it's important to consider its growth habit, as the plant can grow quite large over time. It's advisable to keep it alongside fish species that do not disturb or uproot the plant, as it attaches itself to driftwood or rocks using rhizomes. Additionally, providing enough space in the aquarium for the plant to spread its fronds will help maintain its aesthetic appeal.

Feeding habits of the Bolbitis Heteroclite Asiatica are relatively simple. As a slow-growing plant, it derives most of its nutrients from the water column and substrate. However, supplementing with a liquid fertilizer or root tabs can promote healthy growth and vibrant green coloration. It's important to note that excessive nutrient levels can lead to algae growth, so it's crucial to find the right balance when fertilizing.

When it comes to care, the Bolbitis Heteroclite Asiatica requires a well-maintained aquarium with proper filtration and regular water changes to ensure optimal water quality. It's important to avoid placing the plant in direct contact with the substrate, as this can lead to rotting. Instead, attach it to driftwood or rocks using fishing line or a similar method. Regular pruning is also necessary to maintain its desired size and prevent overcrowding.

In conclusion, the Bolbitis Heteroclite Asiatica is a visually stunning and relatively easy-to-care-for aquatic plant that can enhance the beauty of any aquarium. By providing it with the right water conditions, suitable tank mates, regular feeding, and proper care, you can enjoy the graceful presence of this plant for years to come.
