The Mekong Puffer, also known as the Mekong Giant Puffer or the Giant Freshwater Pufferfish, is a species of pufferfish found in the Mekong River and other rivers and lakes in Southeast Asia. It is one of the largest freshwater pufferfish in the world, growing up to 1 meter (3.3 feet) in length and weighing over 20 kilograms (44 pounds). The Mekong Puffer is known for its distinctive appearance, with a dark brown or blackish body covered in small spines, and its ability to inflate its body into a ball to deter predators. While considered a delicacy in some parts of Southeast Asia, the Mekong Puffer is also considered a vulnerable species due to overfishing and habitat loss.
